Post Surgery Pain

When you think surgery, you usually think pain. But pain control is an important part of your post-operative recovery. Doctors and nurses strive to make you as comfortable as possible after surgery, but it is normal to feel some discomfort and experience some post-surgery pain.

Before surgery, be sure to tell your doctor about all medications (prescriptions and over-the-counter) you are taking. What you already have in your system could affect which drugs are prescribed to help control your post-surgical pain.

Post-surgery pain control is important because, aside from making you more comfortable, it can help you recover faster and may reduce your risk of developing complications after surgery. The faster your post-surgery pain is controlled, the faster you can begin recovery exercises that will help you to avoid post surgery problems.

So what kind of pain will you experience after surgery? It may surprise you that most times patients will not feel pain at the point of the incision. Instead, you may experience pain in the following areas:

Muscle pain: You may feel muscle pain in your back, shoulders or chest due to lying on the operating table.

Throat pain: Your throat may feel sore or scratchy if a breathing tube was placed in your throat during surgery.

Movement pain: You may feel pain at the site of the incision when you begin to move about. When you start sitting up, coughing and walking, you may feel some muscle aches and pain.

During recovery, your doctors and nurses may ask you to rate your pain on a scale from 1 to 10. This helps doctors and nurses gauge how well your treatment is working and whether to make any changes. Keep in mind, you should always be honest about the amount of pain you're in. Your doctors want (and need) to know about any post surgery pain that you are in.

Some people may not want to use the drugs prescribed by their doctors to relieve their post-surgery pain as they may be too strong and their side effects too much for the everyday person to handle. Or you may just want to make use of a more natural remedy when dealing with post surgery pain. MedGen's PAINenz may have that answer for you. The all natural, roll-on pain reliever is a great way to experience pain relief without many side effects. To learn more about PAINenz and to check out the clinical studies, click here.
