Can't Sleep

Can't sleep because of pain or stress? Well you are not alone. About 70 percent of Americans have trouble sleeping. This is due to several factors including pain, stiffness, stress, being overworked, and because of too much caffeine in their diet. Luckily finding a solution to a sleeping problem doesn't have to be difficult.

If a person can't sleep because of pain related to sore muscles, muscle cramps, or joint problems, a simple pain reliever can be an effective solution. MedGen's PainEnz Roll On can be a safe and natural pain reliever that can be applied topically to sore spots to help ease a wide range of pain. (Click here for PainEnz product information.)

In addition to a topical pain reliever like PainEnz you can also use an OTC pain reliever like aspirin and ibuprofen tablets. Other effective forms of OTC pain relievers that are available on the market today include heat and cold therapies, which can be used to dull pain and relax muscles. Acupuncture is another treatment for pain that can be used. After the person's pain is relieved, they will have an easier time falling asleep.

If a person can't sleep because they are having problems breathing, or because they are experiencing excessive restlessness then they may want to turn to an over-the-counter sleep aid. Generally over-the-counter sleep aids contain one of the following three ingredients: melatonin, doxylamine, or diphenhydramine. MedGen's Good Night's Sleep is an excellent natural sleep aid that contains diphenhydramine and it can be taken to help promote a great night's sleep. Melatonin is another naturally occurring ingredient that promotes sleep. However, this sleep agent is a hormone that promotes sleep instead of an antihistamine like doxylamine and diphenhydramine. Currently the FDA has only approved diphenhydramine as a safe and effective sedative, and they recommend a maximum dose of 50mg of this ingredient to promote sleep. The other two ingredients, melatonin and doxylamine, that are commonly used as OTC sedatives, have not yet been evaluated for their safety or effectiveness as a sedative by the FDA. However, it is generally not advised to take more than 25mg of doxylamine or 300 mg of melatonin at any one time.
